While we've been "wintering" in Florida, we have been painting every day, just as we do when in our NY studio. From three to six hours a day. Since we are definitely morning painters it leaves plenty of time to explore the local arts scene and spend some time on the beaches.
The best places to find exceptional local talent is in Vero Beach and Fort Pierce. While we were showing work at the Woodcarvers Den in Fort Pierce we received an email from a member of the Artists Guild Gallery of Vero Beach. She had seen our work in "the Den" and wondered if we would be interested in participating in the Gallery's Guest Artists Gallery. We, of course, responded that we'd be happy to stop in and learn more about it. Upon meeting with Penny Aliyetti we were happy to hand over some photos of the work that is now available. Today they made a unanimous decision to invite us to exhibit next "season". We swiftly accepted and asked that we be penciled in for January.
Now all we have to do is work out the logistics of getting between fifteen and twenty framed pieces moved down to Florida next year.
North Country ARTS is starting to organize an Open Studio/Gallery Tour for members and non-members who reside in the northern reaches of Warren County NY this summer. This is instituted because of the closing of the Chesterton gallery where many artists in the northern reaches of Warren County exhibited. In fact, it was one of the only options available to them as members.
As many artists know, there are a dwindling number of gallery's that are taking new artists on a full-time basis, making it very difficult for artists to introduce new work.
Whiting Studio has a deep commitment to promote the works of artist and artisans who would otherwise be unknown to the public. It is because of that commitment that Susan, as a member of North Country ARTS, has asked if it would be possible to include Washington County NY Artists/Artisan in this studio/gallery tour.
The North Country ARTS is getting this event together totally on a shoe string and relying on a few volunteers to put it together and coordinate. Those organizing members have indicated that if Susan is up to the challenge to contact and coordinate artists and artisans who live and create in Washington County, they would be happy to include in Washington County artists/artisans if the response is strong enough.
Here are some of the details;
The weekends being considered are July 29-30, August 5-6 and August 12-13 each day from 11:00 to 5:00. There is a minimum charge to participate. $50 for NCA members and $60 for non-members. It would also be possible for a group of artists to gather at one artist’s studio, that charge is $50/$40/$35 members and $60/$50/$45 for non-members. For that fee NCA will provide promotional advertising and maps that will be distributed to places frequented by the public.
SO! If you are a Washington County NY artist/artisan and would be interested in participating, please send an email to Susan at firstname.lastname@example.org. She will contact you as soon as possible and will forward you a “letter of interest” that North County ARTS sent to all their members.
Let's make this happen! Please forward this information to any artist/artisan that you know who would like to do an Open Studio/Gallery Tour this summer. If they aren’t in Washington County maybe you can invite them into your studio to show their work.
